Julie Bowles is an associate professor of geosciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her research interests focus on understanding how Earth’s magnetic field changes in time and in space; how records of the field become trapped in Earth materials; and how we can unlock these records and use them to learn more about Earth processes. This work combines standard rock- and paleomagnetic techniques with potential field observations and modeling, as well as techniques in experimental petrology and mineralogy. Dr. Bowles holds a B.S. in oceanography from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in Earth science from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego.
