Lisa D. White


Biography

Dr. Lisa D. White is director of Education and Outreach at the Museum of Paleontology, University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley). Past positions held include professor of geosciences at San Francisco State University, Geosciences Department chair, associate dean of the College of Science & Engineering, and associate dean of the Graduate Division at San Francisco State University. A micropaleontologist by training, an International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) shipboard scientist, and an IODP School of Rock instructor, White has extensive experience directing ship- and shore-based research experience programs for underrepresented students. A Fellow of the California Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of Geological Society of America, and the Chair of the AGU Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee, White has been honored for her service to the geosciences as the inaugural recipient of the GSA Bromery Award, an honor bestowed upon a geoscientist who has been instrumental in opening the geoscience field to other minorities. As the education and outreach director at the Museum of Paleontology at UC Berkeley, she develops and disseminates learning materials on evolution and the fossil record, global climate change, and the nature and process of science while connecting broader communities to museum collections through virtual field trips and mobilization of place-based specimens and digital records for use in evidence-based science education and inquiry. White holds degrees from San Francisco State University (B.A. in geology) and the University of California, Santa Cruz (Ph.D. in Earth sciences).
