Colli and Jones Receive 2017 Study of the Earth’s Deep Interior Focus Group Award for Graduate Research

Lorenzo Colli and Tim Jones will receive the 2017 Study of the Earth’s Deep Interior Focus Group Award for Graduate Research at the 2017 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, to be held 11–15 December in New Orleans, La. This award is given annually “in recognition of advances that contribute to the understanding of the deep interior of the Earth or other planetary bodies using a broad range of observational, experimental, and/or theoretical approaches.”

Shi Receives 2017 Basu Early Career Award in Sun–Earth Systems Science

Quanqi Shi will receive the 2017 Sunanda and Santimay Basu Early Career Award in Sun–Earth Systems Science. He will present a talk and will be formally presented with the award at the 2017 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, to be held 11–15 December in New Orleans, La. This award recognizes “outstanding contributions to research in Sun–Earth systems science that further the understanding of both plasma physical processes and their applications for the benefit of society.”

Blum Receives 2017 Basu United States Early Career Award for Research Excellence in Sun–Earth Systems Science

Lauren Blum will receive the 2017 Basu United States Early Career Award for Research Excellence in Sun–Earth Systems Science at the 2017 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, to be held 11–15 December in New Orleans, La. This award is given annually to “one early career scientist (no more than 3 years post-degree) from the United States in recognition of significant work that shows the focus and promise of making outstanding contributions to research in Sun–Earth systems science that further the understanding of both plasma physical processes and their applications for the benefit of society.”

Lisabeth and Townsend Receive 2017 Mineral and Rock Physics Graduate Research Award

Harrison Lisabeth and Joshua Townsend will receive the 2017 Mineral and Rock Physics Graduate Research Award at the 2017 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, to be held 11–15 December in New Orleans, La. This award is given annually to “one or more promising young scientists for outstanding contributions achieved during their Ph.D. research.” Recipients of this award are “engaged in experimental and/or theoretical studies of Earth and planetary materials with the purpose of unraveling the physics and chemistry that govern their origin and physical properties.”

Nakajima Receives 2017 Yoram J. Kaufman Unselfish Cooperation in Research Award

Teruyuki Nakajima will receive the 2017 Yoram J. Kaufman Unselfish Cooperation in Research Award at the 2017 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, to be held 11–15 December in New Orleans, La. The award recognizes “broad influence in atmospheric science through exceptional creativity, inspiration of younger scientists, mentoring, international collaborations, and unselfish cooperation in research.”
