Kevin Murphy Receives 2016 Charles S. Falkenberg Award

Kevin Murphy received the 2016 Charles S. Falkenberg Award at the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting Honors Ceremony, held on 14 December 2016 in San Francisco, Calif. The award honors an "early- to mid-career scientist who has contributed to the quality of life, economic opportunities, and stewardship of the planet through the use of Earth science information and to the public awareness of the importance of understanding our planet."

Johnson, Lozier, Meltzer, and Oreskes Receive 2016 Ambassador Awards

Ashanti Johnson, M. Susan Lozier, Anne S. Meltzer, and Naomi Oreskes were awarded the 2016 Ambassador Award at the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting Honors Ceremony, held on 14 December 2016 in San Francisco, Calif. The award is in recognition for "outstanding contributions to one or more of the following area(s): societal impact, service to the Earth and space community, scientific leadership, and promotion of talent/career pool."

Gazel Receives 2016 Hisashi Kuno Award

Esteban Gazel will receive the Hisashi Kuno Award at the 2016 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, to be held 12–16 December in San Francisco, Calif. The award recognizes "accomplishments of junior scientists who make outstanding contributions to the fields of volcanology, geochemistry, and petrology."

Girona Receives 2016 Natural Hazards Focus Group Award for Graduate Research

Társilo Girona will be awarded the Natural Hazards Focus Group Award for Graduate Research. He will be formally presented with the award at the 2016 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, to be held 12–16 December in San Francisco, Calif. This award recognizes a promising young scientist engaged in studies of natural hazards and risks and is given in recognition of outstanding contributions achieved during their Ph.D. (or highest equivalent terminal degree) research.

Pigott and Pimienta Receive 2016 Mineral and Rock Physics Graduate Research Award

Jeffrey Pigott and Lucas Pimienta will receive the 2016 Mineral and Rock Physics Graduate Research Award, given annually to one or more promising young scientists for outstanding contributions achieved during their Ph.D. research. Recipients of this award are engaged in experimental and/or theoretical studies of Earth and planetary materials with the purpose of unraveling the physics and chemistry that govern their origin and physical properties.

Anderegg Receives 2016 Global Environmental Change Early Career Award

William Anderegg is the first recipient of the Global Environmental Change Early Career Award. He will receive the award at the 2016 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, to be held 12–16 December in San Francisco, Calif. The award recognizes an early-career scientist "for outstanding contributions in research, educational, or societal impacts on the area of global environmental change, especially through interdisciplinary approach."
