Scientists from several U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories conduct research at the Barrow Environmental Observatory, 530 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. This research, part of a DOE-sponsored project called the Next-Generation Ecosystem Experiment (NGEE-Arctic), seeks to improve climate model predictions through an advanced understanding of coupled processes in Arctic terrestrial ecosystems. A new data archive has been established to provide better access to and usability of data from projects such as this. Credit: Roy Kaltschmidt, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
