Videos show a large landslide on the Kaligandaki River at Lete in Mustang.
On 27 September 2026, a large landslide occurred on the Kaligandaki River in Nepal. The landslide, which was triggered by heavy rainfall over the last few days, has been widely shared on social media. The Straits Times has posted a version to Youtube, although there are many more versions on social media platforms. I note also that all of these reports are somewhat vague:-
The location is reported to be Lete, although this is difficult to pin down. It appears to be in the area of [28.63113, 83.61219], although this is peculation. The image below is the Google Earth representation of the terrain in the area of Lete:-
The landslide appears to have been valley-blocking, but news reports suggest that the breach event occurred within a short period, minimising the hazard.
There is some uncertainty as to whether this landslide caused loss of life. At present, it does not appear on the Bipad portal as a mass fatality event.
